RE: Make- A- Wish gives a Pop Up to cancer patient

I'm a cancer survivor. Make-A-Wish is a great organization and I'm happy the kid is in remission and that his wish was granted. Let's all do what we can to help those in need and work toward a cure.

RE: Propane for grill

One of the things I like about the Roadtrip Grill is the interchangable plates. I have the 2 grill plates that came with it plus a "burner" plate so I can put a pan on one side and a griddle plate for the pancakes in the morning. With some combination of the 4 plates, I can usually cook the whole meal outside.

RE: J.D. Power survey of GPS user satisfaction

The parking lot at work has had many breakins for GPS units. The thieves look for the suction cup marks on the windshield and break in even if there is no GPS visable. I got one of the bean bag mounting kits because of this. I now have 3 GPS units, a Garmin eTrex Vista Cx for handheld use; A Garmin Nuvi 250 for the TV; and a DeLorme USB GPS for the laptop. The laptop GPS mapping software is great but hard to use while driving unless you have some way to mount the laptop (like in a police car). I got the Nuvi 250 after a friend used his on a recent trip. I describe it as "like having a local giving you directions".

RE: NEWBIE

Welcome to the forums, This being my 2nd yr in the forums, I'll tell you it's a great group. One thing to understand about some of the advice you will get here is it should be prefixed with "Under ideal conditions..." or "The absolute best way to....". There may be alternatives that are satisfactory or even better for your situation. One personal example is adding a 2nd battery to my TT (Travel Trailer) for camping where there are no electric hookups. The absolute best way to do this is to replace the single battery with two batteries of the same age, preferably new. When I mentioned that I was going to wait until my current battery needed replacement before I added a second one, the people here told me that wasn't really required, just the ideal way of doing it. Always ask followup questions. Remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question except the one you don't ask. Also remember you are required to send $5 to each senior member of the group when you submit your first post. :B

RE: Propane for grill

I have a 20 lb tank for the grill (Coleman Roadtrip that originally used 1lb bottles) with a high pressure hose to the regulator. I chose that route because I wanted to be able to use the grill without the TT. I got a 20lb tank because that's what's on the TT and I consider it a backup tank. It works for me. YMMV

RE: Anode rod came flying at me...

Yup, normally, the pressure would have been released by opening the hot water faucets but you said you bypassed the heater before you turned on the faucets. when you bypassed the HW Heater, you isolated it from the faucets. The relief valve would have saved you a scare.

RE: RV "Progression"

With Parents: 1969 Starcraft PUP - We traveled cross country with it over 16 weeks then permanent sites for a few yrs. 1974 TT Our stuff: Tents: Started out with a used Coleman "6-man" cabin tent. Upgraded to a monsterous 18X12X7 tent known as the Chatteaux Looked at PUPS, MHs, HTTs. Bought 22 ft TT. Next step: Upgrade the TT to something bigger with slides after we downsize the stick house.

RE: Darnnit--another season over

I winterized today, too. DW had some much needed surgery this yr and we only got out a few weekends together. I took the TT to Gettysburg for 9 days with the guys. I still have to burn about a week of vacation time at work or I'll lose it. Next year will be better. The surgery worked and it's great to have DW out of pain.

RE: moving trailer when not connected to tv

I was foolish enough to try to move my 22 ft TT (4,000 lbs) using an unpowered dolly. It did not work. :) I would be surprised if anyone was grabbing the coupler and spinning any TT.

RE: Dark cloud with silver lining

the price of fuel didn't stop me from camping this past season. The lower price doesn't have me thinking about joy riding.

RE: Honda or Champion Gen?

I own a Honda EU3000IS and love it. It fits our camping style. I think the most important question you need to ask yourself is which generator will fit your style. I need the full 3000 watts because we use the TT and generator for more than camping. I have a large sound system that is used for outdoor events. I set up the TT, plug it into the generator, and plug the sound system into the TT. I then have an air conditioned "office" in the TT and the sound system under the awning. I've had normal conversations with people with the generator between us. When we go camping with no hookups, I go to our neighbors and tell them I have a very quiet generator and plan to use it to recharge my battery for a couple of hrs each day. If they are the least bit bothered, just let me know. I've gotten quite a few complements on the generator and made a few new friends that way. Nobody has complained at all. OTOH, I've seen a guy in a large 5er being asked to leave a SP because he would not shut down his "contractor" generator. If he were boondocking, nobody would have cared. So pick the tool that will do the job best for you.

RE: Tent Camping 1st time in Years

I still use most of my tents. The giant 18X12X7 tent has been used as our "Guest house" when friends want to come camping with us. We use the TT. The REI Base camp 6 is used mostly in the Boston Harbor Islands National Park. It's hard to tow a TT behind a boat to an island :B I use the winter tents in the winter. I use the backpacking tent when I go hiking. DW was a Girlscout leader and will only go in the TT now :) I probably spend many times as many nights in the TT as any one of the tents, but I do tent camp between 5 and 15 nights a yr.

Tank Gremlins

We didn't have enough time at the last CG dump station to do a real thorough clean and flush of our tanks so we decided to take the TT to the local water treatment plant and clean out the tanks before winterizing. The sensors said the black tank was full and the gray tank was 3/4 full when both were near empty. I used the Flush King on the black tank until the water ran clear and the sensors said the tank was empty. Then I backflushed the gray water tank because there was some smelly white stuff in it and it was reading 3/4 full. After a few flushes on the black and a couple on the grey, we checked the levels and both read empty. Then we drove off for a quick dinner. When we stopped, I checked the levels again. The black water read full and the gray read 1/2 full. I think I've got tank gremlins. ;)

RE: Newest Scam

Phishing is for really inexperienced users. The email posted above is so full of dumb things that my 83 yr old mother wouldn't fall for it. There is really no way to prove that this came as a result of you visiting the web site without some prior planning. One way to figure out who is spamming you is to register your own domain with email. Create a "catchall" email address for the domain. When you leave an email address on a web site, use the company name as the user (chevron@yourdomain.com) then, any unsolicited email you get on your domain can be traced to the company that was either hacked or is selling your email address.

RE: Running generators in tandem

If this were DC power, pairing anything with anything else in parallel would be easy. AC power is different. I would think if the generators are not synchronized, the sine wave of voltage peaks and troughs could set up interference between the two waves. this would cause both constructive interference (up to double the voltage) and destructive interference (down to zero) neither of which is healthy for your electrical systems. I wonder how 3 honda 1000s would work?

RE: "Overkill" tow vehicle

Me, too. I'm towing a tiny little 22 ft 4,000 lb TT with a 2500 HD DMax/Allison. That gives me about 8,000 lbs of headroom :B We plan to upgrade the TT soon but I'll still be in the overkill crowd. I'd rather have the power and not need it. I'm rather ashamed to admit that I towed the TT with a 10 yr old Pathfinder before I saw the light. I got tired of little girls on tricycles passing me while going up hills. :;

RE: What would you have siad??

DW and I went to a NH State Park last weekend where generators are allowed and quiet hrs are 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. I had taken the day off on Friday to get a jump on the long weekend so we got to the site pretty early. As our neighbors arrived, I went over to the edge of their sites, introduced myself, and told them I have a very quiet generator that I only plan to run to recharge my battery each day and if it bothered them in the least to let me know. DW and I spent the day Saturday at a family festival for a school that helps kids with head, neck and spinal cord injuries. I have a large sound system and was the announcer for the festival. By the time we got back to the CG, it was 8:00 PM. My neighbors waved hello to us as we pulled the truck back in. I started the generator (Honda EU3000IS) and let it run until 9:30 PM. The neighbors didn't say anything. On Sunday, I checked the battery level and found I was at 65%. I waited until the neighbors on both sides were up and about, started the generator and ran it for 2 hrs or so. In the evening, DW forgot to make the rice she had planned to go with dinner, so I popped a package of precooked rice into the microwave, started the generator, cooked the rice for 90 seconds and shut the generator down. Again, no issues with the neighbors. In fact, both of the families were very friendly. If either of them had asked me to turn off my generator, I would have. OTOH, since I've started my policy of introducing myself and letting the neighbors know my generator plans I have not had a single complaint or even a "dirty look". Several neighbors have told me the generator was so quiet they didn't realize it was on. I don't know if what I do would have prevented your neighbor from asking you to turn off your generator or not, but it works for us.

RE: Quick overnight tenting

Keep every tent until it starts to rot :B I have 5 ranging from a monster 18 X 12 X 7 to a backpacking tent. Most of them get at least a weekend's use every year. I have 2 winter tents so I can invite female friends to come winter camping and give them their privacy. You can never have too many tents :)

RE: Diesel Fuel Near Hershey PA

There are lots of TA's and Hess Truck Stops in PA. I was there last week. $3.88/gal cash at a Hess.
